LESSONS LEARNT - FORUM ON BUSHFIRE PREVENTION
Friday 24 January 2020, 1:30pm, Terang Civic Hall, 105-107 High Street, Terang 3264
It was standing room only at Terang Civic Hall, as over 200 people came from across Regional Victoria and Metropolitan Melbourne to listen, learn and propose solutions about how we can manage our landscape better and prevent mega fires, at a forum I convened with colleagues Richard Riordan MP (Member for Polwarth) and Hon. Dan Tehan (Federal Member for Wannon).
The meeting saw lively presentations and a lengthy question and answer session, and consensus from panellists and public that the State must introduce immediate strategies to mitigate fire risk. Topics discussed included fuel load reduction, roadside grazing, faulty electrical infrastructure, defending threatened property, indigenous land management practices, and practical lessons to be learnt from past failures and successes.
