Another Broken Promise from Daniel Andrews

Member for Western Victoria Region, Bev McArthur said that “this week’s State budget revealed yet another broken promise to the people of Geelong by Daniel Andrews.”

Before the last State election Daniel Andrews promised the duplication of four kilometres of the Barwon Heads road, a grade separation north of Marshall Station, intersection upgrades and a shared path for cyclists and pedestrians. All of these works were to be completed by 2023.

Yet the $318million Barwon Heads Road Duplication project has only received $400,000 in the 2019-2020 budget with no further funds allocated in future years and no completion date given. With no funds allocated it is impossible to commence this road yet alone finish it within the promised timeline.

Bev McArthur said “despite outrageously doubling Victoria’s debt, the Premier for Melbourne, Daniel Andrews could not find any money to fund this vital road project in Geelong.”

“The Barwon Heads Road is coming under increasing pressure with development in Armstrong Creek. Not funding this road, as promised is a slap in the face to all residents who struggle to use this road on a daily basis,” she concluded.
