DEAKIN DELIVERING FOR RURAL AND REGIONAL VICTORIA

Member for Western Victoria Region, Bev McArthur used a Member Statement in Parliament this week to congratulate Deakin University for moving their headquarters to Geelong and to support their ground-breaking rural and regional education.

Bev McArthur recently received a very comprehensive briefing from Prof Jane den Hollander AO, Vice Chancellor of Deakin University, on the programs implemented to improve learning and research opportunities in rural communities. In particular she noted Deakin’s six year old institution, the Centre for Regional and Rural Futures (CeRRF), which supports “transformation within regional and rural by exploring better ways of doing business and developing new products, services, enterprises and technologies.” The Centre focuses on core themes of Food and Food Security, Smart Agriculture, Sustainable Industrial Biotechnology and Developing Regional Competitiveness.

“The centre has a commendable track record of involvement in industry, industry bodies and international and government research over the six years of its existence.”

“Deakin is providing cutting-edge education for our students in rural and regional Victoria and doing an outstanding job of leading education not only in the tertiary sector but also at the secondary and TAFE levels in our Geelong region.”

“They provide unique learning and research opportunities for students and academics across regional Victoria that are so vital for the growth and prosperity of these communities.”
