Forget The Steel And Bitumen, Just Use Tape
A road in Western Victorian is so bad that it is held together by tape.
About 4 kilometres out of Lavers Hill, the Lavers Hill-Cobden Road, the road is virtually collapsing into a gully.
Member for Western Victoria, Bev McArthur, has alerted the Victorian Parliament to the potentially fatal state road.
“I’d barely dare ride a bike on it, let alone drive a car, truck or farm equipment on it,” Mrs McArthur said.
“The side of the road is virtually collapsing due to what appears to be erosion and burrowing.
“Instead of steel systems on a bend, the edge of the road is only maintained by barricade tape tied to a handful of marker posts,” she said.
Mrs McArthur was alerted to the condition of the road by a local resident who was shocked by what he saw.
She has asked the Minister for Roads, Ben Carroll, to fix it his shocking road before a major disaster occurs.
“I am absolutely amazed that motorists haven’t lost their lives already.
“It is clearly a safety hazard and requires urgent repair.
Photos of the road show the erosion is so bad that a huge tunnel-like hole has opened up under the road.
“A road in this condition would never be allowed to remain unrepaired in Melbourne.
“It’s beyond time this Minister started looking at roads outside the tram tracks of Melbourne – and started caring for the lives of motorists, school bus operators, transport drivers and farmers right across the state.”
