Today’s party room decision allows for a fresh start.
Matthew Guy is a father of three young boys, who even yesterday was busy home-schooling, like every other parent of Victorian school-aged children.
He understands how the Victorian Government’s pandemic has hit and hurt families and businesses.
His leadership today will focus on a Government that has replaced democracy with tyranny, fact with fiction and polling over good decision making.
This is a Government whose shambolic failings, based around identity politics, resulted in the deaths of 801 innocent Victorians. A Government which then spent $20 million of taxpayers money to hide from the truth and ‘not recall’ who was in charge.
Matthew’s leadership will remind Victorians that Country Victoria matters – our hospitals matter, our roads desperately need repair, our children need to return to the classroom, that masks are not needed in isolated paddocks, borders are for crossing, and that lockdowns have critically damaged regional towns and tourism without need.
Matthew understands that business needs to open – without the debilitating shadow of doubt that another lockdown will come. Short, sharp lockdowns are in word only. Victorians deserve better than that.
I supported Matthew’s return to the leadership and, like him, will work everyday to remind Victorians of the need for a Government that understands that freedom is one of the fundamental traits of a democratic nation.
We will work for a Government that enables people to live their lives and run their businesses – and not look to control their every decision. We want small government, not dictatorship.
He understands the role of confidence: the ability to book a trip or a dinner, or a function, a wedding – and know it can happen. Or even a coffee with a friend at a café.
The Victorian Auditor General’s Office has tabled reports that present an obscene lack of proper governance and accountability within the Government and the Departments.
The Andrews Government is overseeing burgeoning debt. It is a government that has sneered at those who disagree with it – they are ‘irrelevant’ to the Premier.
Matthew Guy thinks everyone is important – whether they agree with him or not. In a thriving democracy, everyone, every job, every opinion is essential – and relevant.
The Andrews Government has turned over multiple Ministers and is run by a Labor Party that remains in Administration.
This is a party that cannot even rule itself, but thinks it can tell you how to live.
Matthew Guy’s leadership offers every Victorian a chance for change that is desperately needed. A Guy Liberal Party offers freedom, confidence and hope for a future that Victoria urgently needs.
