DO THEY REALLY CARE?

After Labor rejected a Coalition proposal to criminalise harming or threatening any police horse, Western Victoria Region MP Bev McArthur questioned the motives of some so-called animal rights supporters.

Leader of the Victorian Green Party Samantha Ratnam voted against the proposal, brought forward in response to threatening behaviour against Victoria Police in Melbourne’s CBD this week.

Quotes attributable to Bev McArthur MP:

“Ms Ratnam clearly sided with the politics of the protestors today, rather than the welfare of animals. It’s clearer than ever that the Green Party sides with socialists, communists and anarchists, not with genuine animal lovers across our state. Their concern for animal welfare is skin-deep, it’s just a con job to convince decent people to support them.”

“While it was pleasing to see the Animal Justice Member, Mr Meddick, support the Coalition amendment, he failed to convince his Labor and Green cronies to do the same, and didn’t even speak on in today’s debate. With Mr Meddick too, it’s clearly politics first not animals first.”

“Victorians are sick of these protests, and the cover irresponsible and self-interested politicians are giving them. Today’s vote in parliament was another missed opportunity to support our police force – and our highly trained police horses – and to send a message that Parliament is on the side of the decent law-abiding majority.”
