Kinder Kiddies Still Controlled By Scrooge
Western Victoria MP Bev McArthur welcomes the Labor Government’s partial reversal on its kindergarten singing ban in regional Victoria but insists the same must be done in metropolitan Melbourne.
In Parliament last week, Mrs McArthur made a Members Statement criticising the Government’s absurd “term 4 early childhood education directive from deputy chief health officer Allen Cheng” that prohibited singing in kindergarten.
Mrs McArthur told the house, “You can dance at a wedding down the road in South Australia, but Victorian children cannot sing at kindergarten. It is heartbreaking. Mr Scrooge has nothing on Mr Andrews. I wish this were funny, but it is really just cruel, callous and stupid.”
This week, the Government has rolled back its ban but the roll back only allows for singing in kindergartens in groups of no more than 10 and it must be outdoors.
Mrs McArthur said, “The Premier is a control-freak and is using the pandemic to regulate every facet of Victorians’ lives, right down to the number of children allowed to sing at kindergarten but only outside.”
“This restriction is utterly deranged and unheard of in any free society.”
“I’m pleased that the Government has somewhat reversed the ban after I raised it in Parliament, however there should be no restriction on such a trivial issue both in regional Victoria and Melbourne.”
