MELBOURNE’S GRAVY TRAIN NOT TAKING REGIONAL RAIL

Western Victoria MP Bev McArthur used a constituency question to highlight the lack of investment in regional roads and rail in this year’s state budget.

The Victorian Farmers Federation last week called on the Victorian Government to invest more in freight road and rail, given the considerable investments made for metropolitan rail projects.

Mrs McArthur echoed the VFF’s call, “In the budget, the Government announced an average of $19.6 billion per year in investment into infrastructure, yet only $300 million for regional roads maintenance.”

“Underfunded road and rail infrastructure across my electorate inhibits agricultural productivity, which the region depends on as its primary driver of economic activity.”

Mrs McArthur asked the Minister for Transport Infrastructure, “What is the Government doing to lower regional freight costs for Western Victorian businesses?”
