End Border Barriers
The Victorian and South Australian border has closed overnight amidst crazed panic over a coronavirus cluster.
Victorian Government officials are reportedly still scoping out a location for a police blockade near Nelson, despite the border being supposedly closed as of this morning.
The permit scheme that is due to be implemented is still yet to be finalised, but the DHHS website provides that travelling across the border for educational purposes will not be a permitted reason, denying many teachers and students the ability to attend school.
Meanwhile, the South Australian Government has no reversed its intended lockdown.
Western Victoria MP Bev McArthur said, “The hard border with South Australia should immediately be canned, given that the SA Government have now reversed restrictions.”
“This was a complete knee jerk reaction by the Premier which comes at enormous cost to border communities who depend on crossing state lines for a vast array of reasons including for vital education, agriculture and business purposes.”
"It would be laughable to try to stop South Australians entering Victoria when they’re much freer over there, with no mandatory masks and higher limits on public and private gatherings.”
“Australians have a right to live, learn, work and travel in any state they wish, and we cannot afford to continue to deny them that, every time a few cases pop up.”
"This border closure business needs to end. Victoria should never have embarked on a border closure with SA."
"The virus is not going away any day soon and each Government just needs to have their hospital facilities, testing, tracing, isolation and hotel quarantine protocols in place to allow all Australians to move about as one nation."
