Victoria’s Upper House Votes Against Brumby Cull
Opposition and crossbench MPs today joined together to ensure a landmark motion in the Legislative Council passed without government dissent.
It read “That this House calls on the Andrews Labor Government to cease its plan for the broadscale shooting of brumbies in Victorian national parks.”
Parks Victoria plan to commence their extensive shoot of the state’s historic brumby population imminently, despite strong opposition from people across the country and now the Legislative Council as well.
Quotes attributable to Bev McArthur MP:
“The passing of this motion demonstrates that Victorians from all walks of life and all political beliefs – whether from the Liberal Democrats, Derryn Hinch’s Justice Party, the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party, Transport Matters Party, Dr Catherine Cumming, Sustainable Australia and the Animal Justice Party – have sincere concerns about Parks Victoria’s plan to destroy an important part of our culture and heritage.”
“The executive branch of government must listen to the opposition in the legislature to this planned shoot of wild horses and this plan should be cancelled before a single brumby is shot.”
“The Labor Government must now take responsibility for their department’s cruel and unjust plan and put an end to it.”
